Canyoning Grotta Donini

Caving and canyoning merge into something you won’t find anywhere else in Sardinia.

You’ll follow an underground stream into the belly of the earth — where darkness is absolute, where the only sound is the echo of moving water, and where human life has no business being.

Your headlamp carves a cone of light through the black. Slowly, the cave reveals itself: smooth walls, narrow passages, emerald pools — a secret world that has never seen the sun.

Grotta Donini is a natural sinkhole that swallows surface water and shapes it into something extraordinary: a continuous chain of underground pools and crystal-clear lakes, hidden deep beneath the Ogliastra rock. You’ll spend most of the time in the water — swimming, walking, diving — with narrow corridors smoothed by centuries of emerald water and a series of rope rappels descending into the dark.

Then, without warning — a blinding crack of light.

Is that the exit? It looks like a mirage. And yet…

Karst caves are a world apart. Their galleries and chambers are filled with iconic rock formations shaped by millions of years of slow, dripping water: stalactites hanging down from above, stalagmites pushing up from below, and columns where the two have met and merged.

The technical skills required are advanced, and the physical demand is intense. Participants must have prior canyoning experience on other routes and must be comfortable in tight, enclosed spaces — claustrophobia is a serious consideration here.
