Abseiling Monte Arista Rappels & Via Ferrata

Near the village of Cardedu, in Ogliastra, the rounded granite silhouette of Monte Arista rises unmistakably above the landscape. This hiking and canyoning adventure takes you first through a stunning stretch of Mediterranean forest, then up a series of via ferrata sections — all fully equipped with fixed protection — straight to the summit.

The panoramic views from the top, especially towards the Ogliastra coastline, are simply unmatched.

And the way back? Eight rappels, each one more thrilling than the last, will bring you back down through the forest.

Did You Know?

On the way back, at the base of the last rappel, a short trail leads to a cluster of domus de janas — the mysterious and fascinating “witches’ houses” carved directly into the rock. These ancient Neolithic burial chambers, scattered across the whole of Sardinia, typically feature several interconnected rooms with multiple openings to the outside.

Important Note

At Monte Arista, the full coastal light and the vivid chromatic contrasts of the landscape are just two of the forces hitting your senses all at once. Climbing the via ferrata up to the granite “cap” at the summit, with the horizon expanding wider and wider around you, builds an inner drive that could fuel you for days. You can burn some of it off on the rappel sequence on the way down — every single drop with a sea view. When it’s all over, you still have the memories and the photos you took. And you can always come back.

Difficulty Level

The Monte Arista hike is open to almost everyone — low technical difficulty and moderate physical effort make it accessible to a wide range of adventurers. The only restriction: children under 12 are not permitted.
